{"id":560,"date":"2013-08-24T09:08:42","date_gmt":"2013-08-24T09:08:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/?p=560"},"modified":"2013-08-24T09:08:42","modified_gmt":"2013-08-24T09:08:42","slug":"vegan-egg-substitutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/vegan-egg-substitutes\/","title":{"rendered":"Vegan Egg Substitutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/no-eggs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-562\" title=\"no-eggs\" src=\"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/no-eggs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"144\" height=\"115\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;m learning about vegan cooking. \u00a0I&#8217;ve not tried these egg substitutes yet but will begin to and will report back.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Applesauce (1\/3 cup applesauce = 1 egg or \u00bc cup Applesauce + 1 tsp Baking Powder) &#8230;\u00a0<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Arrowroot Powder (2 heaped tbsp arrowroot powder \u00a0= 1 egg)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Bananas (\u00bd pureed Banana, abt 1\/4 cup = 1 egg)\tJust mash it smooth<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Cornstarch 1 egg = 2 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Flax eggs: A great egg replacement in baking.\u00a0For one flax egg, mix 1 tbsp of ground flax seed with 3 tbsp hot water. \u00a0Allow to sit for 2 minutes and your flax egg is ready. \u00a0It will become thick and a bit gelatinous and will do the job of an egg (binding) as it cooks.\u00a0 flax eggs are great for cookies, bars, muffins, pancakes, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Potato Starch (2 heaped tbsp potato starch = 1 egg)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Pumpkin (1\/3 cup of cooked pumpkin = 1 egg)\tThis works for all baked goods<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Soy flour (1 heaping tablespoon of soy flour + 2 tbsp water = 1 egg)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Soy Yogurt\/Plain Yogurt ( \u00bc cup Yogurt= 1 EGG )If you are a vegan, you may opt for soy yogurt. Otherwise plain yogurt will dothe trick. Just beat it well and add it to the brownie mix.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Vegetable Oil (1\/4 cup = 1 egg)<\/p>\n<p>Vinegar and Baking Powder\tUse this egg substitute in cake, only when you require more than one egg for baking. Mix one tablespoon each of white vinegar and water in a glass. To this, add one teaspoon of baking powder and stir well until the mixture blends well. Now, use this egg substitute for your cake recipe.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Tofu is great for egg substitutions in recipes that call for a lot of egg. To substitute for only one egg in a recipe, whip or blend 1\/4 cup soft tofu and add to your cooking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Silken Tofu\/ Tofu ( 1\/4 cup blended silken tofu = 1 egg )\tProcess in a blender until completely smooth and creamy, leaving no graininess or chunks.
