{"id":176,"date":"2012-02-15T02:19:06","date_gmt":"2012-02-15T02:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/?p=176"},"modified":"2012-02-15T02:19:06","modified_gmt":"2012-02-15T02:19:06","slug":"keeping-myself-efficiently-fueled-by-eating-smaller-meals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/keeping-myself-efficiently-fueled-by-eating-smaller-meals\/","title":{"rendered":"Keeping myself efficiently fueled by eating smaller meals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I woke up hungry and ate a banana while I decided what I would eat.\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t given much thought to food the past few days. \u00a0For breakfast, I sliced a yellow squash with a handful of mushrooms and some kale and sauteed it with some fresh garlic. I topped it with cheesy tasting\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nutritional_yeast\" target=\"_blank\">nutritional yeast.<\/a> If I eat something like this every 3 hours, I stay satiated and fueled. I don\u2019t always have the discipline though.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I was just doing things around the house, straightening up a little, doing laundry, vacuuming, walking in and out of the yard, picking up oak and pine deadfall.\u00a0 I\u2019d check Facebook every few hours and then feel hungry again.\u00a0 About noon, I lightly tossed\u00a0 some fresh green beans with olive oil, salt and pepper, slivers of red pepper and 4 fat whole cloves of garlic. Then spread out in one layer on a metal pan, oven to 400 degrees for 8 minutes, then turn oven off \u2014 do not open door \u2014 and leave in another 10 minutes to sweeten up.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d tossed a giant potato into the oven earlier and put the green beans in after 20 minutes.\u00a0 I always use a baking nail when I bake a large potato; it cuts the cooking by half.\u00a0\u00a0 I often bake cut up boneless, skinless chicken thighs in the oven at 425 for 12 minutes, then turn over and bake another 4 minutes.\u00a0 Then I turn the oven off and leave the chicken in for another 4 minutes.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have put a baking potato in the oven when I turned it on for the chicken, so by the time the chicken is in and done, the potato is as well.<\/p>\n<p>I used the potato about 3:00pm for supper, topped with sauteed mushrooms and kale.\u00a0 I felt like I\u2019d been chopping and cooking and eating all day long, but it wasn\u2019t anything heavy or fatty.\u00a0 I felt super fueled.\u00a0 My tummy was making happy gurgling sounds.\u00a0 I love to hear that, it tells me everything is happy in there.<\/p>\n<p>I used to need to feel full to feel satisfied.\u00a0 Now I prefer the feeling of staying just a little bit empty, feeding myself as I would feed a fire, just a log here or there added at the right time to keep it all burning efficiently.\u00a0 Holding that image helps remind me.\u00a0 If I piled all the wood on at once, the fire would have a hard time keeping going.\u00a0 It would be too crowded to breathe.<\/p>\n<p>I know what that\u2019s like.\u00a0 I like a lot of space between my molecules, too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I woke up hungry and ate a banana while I decided what I would eat.\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t given much thought to food the past few days. \u00a0For breakfast, I sliced a yellow squash with a handful of mushrooms and some kale and sauteed it with some fresh garlic.
