See the original at the vid at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@tifflovestofu\/video\/6999302984882556165\">Sweet and spicy tofu from tifflovestofu on TikTok\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">FIRST, PREPARE THE TOFU AND LET IT SIT<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Squeeze excess water out of block of tofu,<br \/>\nPress on a towel for 60 mins at room temp to dehydrate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">NEXT, PREPARE THE VEGETABLES SO THEY&#8217;RE READY<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Chop garlic<\/strong> (for me, 6 cloves)<br \/>\n<strong>ginger<\/strong> (for me, a thumb sized piece)<br \/>\n<strong>mushrooms<\/strong>\u00a0 (3-4 oz)<br \/>\n<strong>scallions<\/strong> (maybe 6-8 chopped, you&#8217;ll saute the white parts and set the green parts aside to sprinkle on the dish before serving)<br \/>\n<strong>bell peppers<\/strong> ( one whole chopped)<br \/>\n<strong>onion<\/strong> (one small)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #cf570c;\"><strong>You&#8217;ll end up with 4 cups of chopped raw vegs<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s not in her recipe, but I add <strong>broccoli<\/strong> to everything, see pic.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>GET THE SWEET AND SPICY SAUCE GOING<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Sauce is 2 tbsp each:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ab1b1b;\"><strong>red chili flakes or sambal oleck<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>apple cider or rice wine vinegar<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>hoisin sauce<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>low sodium soy sauce (or regular soy sauce cut in half with water)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>sugar<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><strong>Add water to double in volume. Taste and add more sugar if needed. The tofu will soak up a lot of the sourness, so don&#8217;t make it too sweet.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>Next, make a cornstarch slurry in ROOM TEMP water:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Add 2 tablespoons cornstarch shaken into 4 tablespoons room temperature water that you are whisking around quickly. \u00a0It will easily dissolve and make a thin paste.\u00a0<em>(If you pour the water into the cornstarch, it will make a big lumpy mess you can\u2019t use.)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Then add the rest of the sauce ingredients and simmer on low<\/strong> until it begins to thicken. Remove from heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">DIRECTIONS TO BRING IT ALL TOGETHER<\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_1776\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/crispy-cornstarch-tofu-with-flash.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1776\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1776\" src=\"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/crispy-cornstarch-tofu-with-flash-300x222.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/crispy-cornstarch-tofu-with-flash-300x222.jpg 300w, http:\/\/goddessgrub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/crispy-cornstarch-tofu-with-flash.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><center>Crispy tofu<\/center><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She added oil to a pan (I used coconut oil,) then sprinkled cornstarch atop the oil, then added the tofu cubes and stirred them around then added the sauce and vegs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> I dredged my tofu in 3 tbsp each cornstarch and egg white and placed the chunks in the pan.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Add the sauce to the pan, then the vegetables<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stir it all around just long enough to coat each cube. The vegs only need 3-4 mins to cook.
